NAGAON: As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Assam State Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institution (SAMETI), in association with District Agriculture Department, Nagaon, organized a two-day long sensitization programme on organic agriculture among village headmen of the district on Tuesday and Wednesday at the office campus of the Nagaon district agriculture officer.

The programme was initiated as per directives of National Agriculture Extension and Management Centre, Hyderabad aiming to focus on the mission as well as the vision of the Prime Minister on organic agriculture among the farmers.

The programme concluded on Wednesday. Over 84 village headmen of the district participated in the sensitization programme. Assistant Director of State Agriculture Department, Rabijit Dutta Chaudhary and senior agriculture development officer Rajib Bhuyan were present in the programme as the chief observers.

District agriculture officer Tarun Hazarika inaugurated the programme on Tuesday morning and in his inaugural speech, Hazarika laid stress on organic farming and said that use of chemical or laboratory-based fertilizers as well as pesticides in food crops had posed a health hazard.
